Next was called strauss syndrome: increased motor activity, distractibility, hyperactivity, etc. 7. 2 characteristics that impact learning and life success. Characterized by a pattern of behaviour, present in multiple settings (home, school, etc. ) that can result in performance issues in social, educational, and work settings. Symptoms must present before age 12 and have at least 6 symptoms and they fall into 2 categories: inattention, and hyperactive/impulsive. Inattention: fails to give close attention to details, careless mistakes, inattention, not listening, does not follow through with instructions, difficulty organizing, avoids tasks that require sustained mental effort (school work), loses things, forgetful. Hyperactivity: fidgets, squirms, leaves seat, runs and climbs about, difficulty having quiet leisure time, talks excessively. Impulsivity: blurts out answers before question is completed, has difficulty waiting turn, interrupts and intrudes. Fidgety, loud, disorganized, disruptive, off-task, or daydreaming behaviours.
