Before this, the criminal code had four sections that prohibited forced sexual activity: The legal de nition of rape in the law was heterosexual intercourse by a man with a woman who was not his wife. Wives could also not be raped technically and past activities as evidence against her. It also needed corroboration that the crime of rape actually took place. The judge had to tell jury not to convict based on complainant"s testimony. Also rape allegations that were not made directly after attack were invalidated.
