Document Summary
Important aspect is the comparative approach (trying to understand biological phenomena by comparing them in different species). The brain is not a static network of neurons. It is a plastic organ that continuously grows and changes in response to the individual"s genes and experiences. We perceive the world continuously but our brain works on a digital principle (on or off) We turn on or off neurons (action potential) However, our brain fills in all the gaps. We"re different from computers because we have an organic component. Biopsychology emerged as a discipline in the late 1940s. It is the scientific study of the biology of behavior. Ultimately, this discipline attempts to understand how brain interacts with the environment to produce behaviors that keeps us safe so that we may pass on the genetic material within us. Important to note: can appreciate that if we did not have a brain, we would have no behavior.
