Document Summary
Dual process the two components of the dual process are usually referred to as systems". The dual process account is compromised of two systems. System 1 has been described as an evolutionary primitive form of cognition. This means that the structures and processes associated with system 1 are likely to be shared across many animal species. At the lowest level, all animal species are able to make quick responses to threatening stimuli. All animals are able to generalize responses to stimuli that are are similar to threatening stimuli. The same can be said for stimuli that fulfill a basic drive. Associative learning system is responsible for operant and classical conditioning is also part of the system. This includes a dopaminergic reward system, whereby a positive outcome strengthens connections between neural responses and a non-positive outcome does not strengthen the associations. System q is not a single system but rather a cluster of cognitive and behavioural subsystems and processes.
