Psychology 3301F/G Chapter Notes - Chapter 7-8: Schizotypal Personality Disorder, Response Bias, Construct Validity
Document Summary
Task of forming an accurate understanding of patient. Conceptualize problem (form a testable hypothesis re: problem and modify to fit new information) 91% of all practicing psychologists engage in assessment. Personality: a general predisposition to think, feel, and behave in certain ways. Tells us how much of a trait an individual has. Why do we test: clinical, employment, curiosity. Tests control an individual destiny: e. g. , can determine who gets hired and can determine how someone is viewed. But what"s the alternative: personal opinions, unscientific measurements. How does it work: need for a test, create the test, validate the test, use the test appropriately! E. g. , questionnaire: ask about the data you"re interested in, true/false or likert scale (1 = disagree completely & 7 = agree completely) * negatively keyed items control for response acquiescence (i. e. tendency to say yes to everything) Obvious items (high face validity, but may cause response bias)
