Document Summary
Racism: involves the negative evaluation of groups defined and constructed by reference to their perceived biological makeup and/ or physical appearance. It is about the social construction and social evaluation of physical differences like skin colour and presumed race. Today, neutral language holds a negative attitude towards a group. Code words are used allowing people to use these words however and not considered to be racist. Islamophobia: first came into widespread use in britain in the 1990s. To refer to a wide range of intolerance, not just to intolerance where the principal markets of different is physical difference and skin colour. There are clear similarities between antisemistism, sectarianism, and islamophobia, and between these and other forms of intolerance. In british political context, the definition of racism was used to justify the inclusion of discrimination against muslims within the wider purview of the country"s race relationship legislation. The term flying while muslim captures this new form of discrimination.
