Introduction to sociology: 1-22 of the sociology project. Individuals are shaped by their life experiences and identi ed by their preferences (likes, desires, where you live, whom you"ve interacted with, etc. ) Social networks: links between people/ organizations/ groups (think social media and di erent social groups; the ways you are connected to the people you know) Society: a group of people who live in the same area and share a culture. Societies constantly evolve creating new questions (think socratic method) Helps challenge stereotypes by questioning where they came from, their basis, who bene ts from them, and why they are detrimental. Backgrounds, experiences, habits shape who we are, two people along similar paths may end up with di erent opportunities/ lives. Social contexts: must apply the correct common sense rule to the situation in order to succeed ( look before you leap v. he who hesitates is lost ); the in uence of society on individuals.
