The concepts of diaspora and transnational have become popular alternatives to terms that describe people who have moved abroad, their patterns of settlement, their identities, and their communities. Became popular in scholarly circles at about the same time in the 1990s: there was a huge jump in the amount of articles that began to discuss diaspora and transnationalism. Contemporary advocates for both concepts discuss their dissatisfaction with. Traditional studies of immigration and ethnic relations: namely, that traditional concepts and approaches used to study immigrants, immigration, and ethnicity are ill-equipped to understand new trends and realities. Include their primary focus on processes such as assimilation, integration, and accommodation or ethnic conflict and exclusion within the nation state. Groups that once rejected the label of diaspora now use it to describe their larger community of co-ethics who have settled abroad. The concept of transnationalism has generally not filtered down into the vocabulary of the non-scholarly community or into immigrant/ethnic community organizations.
