Why has scientific interest in life beyond earth exploded in the past few decades: new discoveries in both planetary science and biology have given us reason to believe simpler life (tiny microbes) exist, recently gained evidence that there are planets that orbit other stars in the universe, more places to search for life, advances in scientific understanding and in technology make it possible study through more established techniques of science. Astronomy: the study of the universe, geocentric, the idea that the earth was the center of the universe, view of the universe held for thousands of years, by studying distant objects, we have learned that the physical laws that operate in the rest of the universe are the same as those that operate right here on earth, this tells us that if something happened there, it is possible that the same thing could have happened somewhere else.
