Jobs vary in the intrinsic rewards that are derived from them: good jobs = intrinsically rewarding because they"re challenging. It refers to the control that workers have over their work processes: alienation: marx identified 4 dimensions of alienation: Workers are separated from the products of their labour. Ie) people working on a product without knowing its purpose. Ie) they have little autonomy over how their work is done. Since labour is part of the essence of being human, alienation from production and processes = alienation from themselves: workers are unable to derive a meaningful existence from their work. Workers are separated from one another: this happens because work processes are set up to minimize interaction because capitalism establishes inherently antagonistic relationships across classes (conflict)
