Document Summary

Dna is molecule which hereditary information is transmitted from generation to generation. Proteins carry out most essential activities in life of a cel. The organism causes a variety of infections in humans and a deadly form of pneumonia in mice. He studied two strains of the bacterium, one harmful , one mutant. When the dead virulent cells mixed with nonvirulent cells so nonvirulent cells became virulent. He concluded some molecule in the debris carried genetic information but dint nd out what. In 1944 oswald afvery and scientists discovered that it was dna. Dna is unique among cellular processes in being able to specify exact copies of itself. Most mutations are harmful, rare favourable mutations are essential in process of evolution. Genetic info in dna directs the avtivities in a cell or guides development of an organism but the e ects of dna are indirect. Most active molecules in cells and development re proteins, including enzymes converting energy to usable forms.
