Factors that have made it desirable for organizaions to acively manage their supply chains: the need to improve operaions, increasing level of outsourcing, increasing globalizaion, increasing e-commerce, the need to manage inventories across the supply chain. Bullwhip efect demand variability is progressively larger moving backward through a supply chain. Goals and compeiive characterisics such as quality, cost, variety (lexibility), imeliness (speed), customer service, and ill rate (% of demand illed from stock on hand) should be determined by the members of the supply chain. Products will be designed with these compeiive characterisics in mind.
