CP102 Chapter Notes - Chapter 11: Binary Large Object, Database Administrator, Referential Integrity
Document Summary
If complex information needs to be organized or more than one person needs to access it, a list isn"t an efficient solution. Lists can lead to inefficiencies due to repetition of data and errors from inconsistently entered or updated data. Data redundancy : duplicated data in a list. Data inconsistency: data for a record being different in two different lists. A database has mechanisms to manage large amounts of data and to keep it accurate as it"s updated and manipulated. Databases provide data centralization: when data is maintained in only one file. A centralized database also increases efficiency because there are no files to reconcile with each other. Data integrity: the data contained in the database is accurate and reliable. Database administrator/ database designer: an information technology professional responsible for designing, constructing, and maintaining databases. Can be more time-consuming and expensive to set up and administer. Care is needed to insure they function as intended.
