Document Summary

Events are governed by lawful order that can be observed, measured, and tested: lawful order cause & effect make predictions then create laws of science. Incorporate new findings do create new and better theories. Advantages: done in natural conditions, easy collection of data, theory development. Disadvantages: no control, researcher and participant bias, no cause and effect. Manipulates an independent variable and measures a dependent variable. Advantages: good control, can identify cause and effect, can conclude that the difference between the groups behaviours are caused by the independent variable. Disadvantages: ethical concerns, practical limits, artificial limits, confounding variables extra variable the researcher fails to control (time of research) How can two groups be the same: random assignment = when a person as the possibility to go in either the one of the two groups. How can it be done without bias: double-blind procedure = where neither the participant nor the researcher knows who is in which group.
