Sampling Distributions and the Standard Error:
Sampling Distribution:
-the distribution of sample statistics that we would see if we calculated some statistic (ex
mean) from multiple samples from some population
-the distribution of any statistic
-sampling distribution of the mean is the distribution of means we would obtain from
repeated random samples from a specific population
-also sampling distribution of variance
-the standard error is simply the standard deviation of a sampling distribution
Sampling Error:
-the variability of above statistics from one same to another
-the value of a sample statistic probably will be in error as a rsult of particular observations
that are included in the sample
-does not imply carelessness or mistake
-random variability
