The nucleolus (p 35-36: a non-membrane bound inside the nucleus, structure made up of proteins & nucleic acids, ribosomal rna (rrna) is transcribed & assembled w/in the nucleolus. Nuclear lamina: found inside the nucleus under the double membrane, provides structural support mesh like (protein filaments, to further protect dna) Chromatin (p 35: dna plus associated proteins (histone & non-histone proteins) Loosely packed dna -> genes active & transcription occurring. Densely packed dna -> genes inactive & transcription not occurring. Proteins associated w/ dna that are not histones.
