Green alga chlamydomonas reinhardtii: has chloroplasts that allow it to harvest energy from light, each cell has an eyespot that allows the cell to gather information by detecting the light. 1. 1a what is light: sun produces energy by converting h he, energy is in the form of electromagnetic radiation, light is the portion of the electromagnetic spectrum that humans can detect with their eyes. Light has between 400-700 nm wavelengths: note: in physics light includes other regions of the electromagnetic spectrum that do not include visible light. Therefore they use terms like visible light, ultraviolet light, and infrared light. Properties of light: light has no mass, light behaves as a wave and as a particle (a photon), particle-wave duality: maintains that light has the properties of both a wave and a stream of photons.
