Document Summary

Differentiate using explanation, diagrams, b/t gradualism & punctuated equilibrium. They"re ways in which evolution of species can occur. Gradualism: is selection & variation that happens more gradually. Small variations that fits an organism are selected for. Evidence by intermediate fossils records shows gradual change. There"s a period with very little change & then one or few huge changes occurs, often through mutations in genes of a dew individuals. Mutations that result in punctuated equilibrium are helpful to individuals in their environment. There are few intermediate species showing the evolution. Rapid period of change (horizontal lines on graph) Period of equilibrium where change ins minimal (vertical lines) Discuss events that shape the history of life. Use knowledge of microevolutions, phylogenetic & speciation: differentiate b/t background & mass extinctions, in terms of adaptations. Species go extinct b/c they are not selected for by the environment.
