Document Summary

Interaction between cells occur to build animal tissues. Cells associate with one another to form an organized multicellular structure: shape, strength, pathways for communication, overall cell movement. Two building strategies in animal tissues: epithelial tissue. These cells rest on the basal lamina. Has many cells that are closely bound together into sheets and this is the epithelia. The cytoskeleton is the one that carries the mechanical stress: connective tissue. Consists of collagen fibers in the extracellular matrix that helps in carrying the cell"s mechanical stress. Cells that are attached are bound to the matrix. What are cells attaching to when they attach to the extracellular matrix (ecm): made of proteins and polysaccharides/very complex, secreted by cells. Important because they form things like the cornea, teeth, tendons. In insects, plays a part in their shell: two categories exist in animal cells. Influences cell mechanisms growth/survival/metabolism: serves as a scaffold for regeneration after injury.
