Communications is the act of making something common between two or more people. It also includes sending, receiving, and creating a message or idea. For example, many high-profile companies use social media websites such as facebook and linkedin to get their messages across. Traditional media, new media, and social media are all illustrated to be forms of mass communication. For example, views on youtube is considered to be mass communication. Convergence is the merging of a wide range of previously distinct or separate communications technologies or media. For example, photos were on film and hard copy, videos were on magnetic tape but now everything can be read by computers. There are two different models of the process of communication: The shannon-weaver model of communication the idea of shannon-weaver model of communication was proposed by claude shannon and warren weaver in 1949. This model is basically about the encoder formulating a message and sending it to a decoder.
