To use components effectively, it need to run multiple programs at the same time. Os controls & allocates resources of computer. Loads programs into memory so they can begin w/instruction. Swapping is technique used for effective use of ram-it brings only parts of programs into. Ram when needed & copy it back out to disk when active. Virtual memory- giving the illusions of reality but not real things. Os manage & coordinate activities of devices connect to computers. Virtual os, run one os under control of another. Virtual machine: program that stimulates a computer, real or fake. Browsers have virtual machines to interpret javascript programs. Process of loading information & instruction until work can be performed. Instructions are provides to allocate more information & involved loading software program.
