EN 1001 Chapter Notes - Chapter 1: Thermostat, Geothermal Heat Pump, Air Handler
Document Summary
While fossil fuels are quickly being depleted, nuclear energy has proven to be less than ideal for its volatility. Recently there have been a number of alternative energy sources, which have come into use. One that seems to be promising as well as effective is the use of geothermal pumps. Geothermal pumps regulate the temperature of buildings by harnessing the heat energy found deep inside in the earth. Although the installation and use of geothermal pumps requires more effort than a conventional furnace and air conditioning system, the long-term benefits are well documented. Geothermal pumps operate by utilizing the temperatures found in the earth. In order for geothermal pumps to be used, a device known as a heat exchanger must be installed alongside a series of pipes below the property. Depending on the size of the property these pipes can be installed horizontally for smaller properties, or vertically for larger properties such as schools or commercial buildings.
