Mark antony (one of the three leaders of the roman empire) falls in love with. Cleopatra (egyptian queen) and loses interest in his role -> showing how women and love distract and take away from capabilities of men. His duty shifts from being in rome protecting his people to staying in alexandria to love cleopatra - enjoying himself in a time of crisis. A messenger reports to antony that fulvia (his wife) and lucius (his brother) have mounted a battle against caesar but lost their battle - this would not have happened if. Antony starts to believe that his devotion to cleopatra is responsible for his wife"s death, so he decides to return to rome. Cleopatra is angered by this and accuses antony of false love because of how little he mourned for his wife; they argue until antony departs for rome and promises that distance will not affect their love.
