Ontologies are explanations of the nature of being, that is, what does it mean to exist. Archetypes are basic patterns of stories that appear worldwide, though in different forms. Symbols are images or words that capture the essence of something. Similes are a form of speech that says something is like something else. A study of these myths, or the larger mythology, can give us insight into different cultural ways of thinking about (and living w/in) its own sense of nature.
