HIST 3131 Chapter Notes - Chapter II, 14-35: Boii, Pisa, Picenum
Document Summary
The transalpine gauls live on the northern side of the alps. Slopes of the apennines are inhabited by the ligures: territory stretches on the seaward side as far as pisae. The celts attacked the etruscans and occupied the area of the po river in northern italy: many tribes occupied this region with the etruscans gone, they lived in un-walled villages, lead simple lives. Agriculture, warfare: possessed only cattle and gold. Only thing they could take with them easily. Celts terrified and subjugated people in the italian peninsula. These celts defeated the romans and occupied all of rome except the capitol: rome was saved by a barbarian invasion of these celts by another tribe, the veneti. These celts then fought wars amongst other tribes for many years. Thirty years later, the celts invade again: no roman resistance due to it being a surprise attack. Twelve years after the second invasion, the celts attacked for a third time: gaulic army routes.
