HLST 1000 Chapter : HEALTH STUDIES SUMMARY Chpt 5
Document Summary
Through chapter 5, it gives perspective on what we grow up to learning of what constitutes knowledge and the world of how we come to perceive it. The way we have become adapted into perceiving this world and society we have been born into is called -knowledge paradigm. What knowledge paradigm refers to is a set belief or assumptions that talk about knowledge and how it was formed. Knowledge paradigms are distinguished into three families that inform health studies inquiries, they are positivism, idealism, and realism. These aspects of knowledge paradigms set guide lines and limits to how much knowledge from an ideology is to be known. Positivism focuses on the observable and concrete in order to identify repeating patterns between what is seen as to be causes or effects.
