HLST 1010 Chapter Notes - Chapter 2: Symbolic Interactionism
Document Summary
The most important points in this chapter were the mentioning of sociological perspectives on health and health care, including the social structures and social relations. The chapter also mentioned the sociological theory and concepts of health related problems and creation of health policy. Lastly the chapter covered anti-racism, feminism and post-colonialism as key social factors that caused us to focus on human race, which often results in unequal treatment. Feminism is further divided into structural functionalism, symbolic interactionism, and conflict theory, for example men and women have fundamentally different experiences and access to power that are socially constructed. The material in this chapter was similar to what i believe prior to talking this course because i"ve always recognized that racism and feminism are key factors that shaped our society today and in the pass. Unequal treatments were also common no matter how rich or poor the countries are.
