Increases to public benefits has led the medical profession as a gatekeeper. Chapter 14- constructing disability and illness: access to education, financial benefits, mobility aids and devices, and rehabilitation are assessed to determine a person"s needs based on criteria evaluation. Individual"s physical and mental limitation can be lessened when environments are appropriately adapted to enable participation: this approach is grounded in disability discrimination. Biomedical approach- disability is due to an individual"s abnormality and the extent of his or her functional limitations. Functional approach- disability is a pathology that is best treated with services that enable the individual to become as socially functional as possible. Environmental approach- disability arises from the failure of ordinary environments to accommodate people"s difference.
