Increase in circulating eosinophils (eosinophilia) is associated with: Allergic conditions such as asthma & hay fever. Internal parasite infestations, such as worms- attach to worms & secrete substances to kill it. Can also prevent clotting of blood samples drawing for chemical analysis. The blood: mononuclear cells: mononuclear (single nucleus) agranulocytes (cells lacking granules) Monocytes: phagocytosis, antigen presentation, cytokine production & cytotoxicity, emerge from bone marrow while still immature; circulate for 1-2 days; settle down in various tissues. When settled, monocytes mature & enlarge in resident tissues & become known as macrophages: mature monocytes are macrophages, macrophages are large phagocytic cell found stationary in tissues or as mobile white blood sites of infection. They"re a type of white (cid:271)lood (cid:272)ell that e(cid:374)gulfs & digests (cid:272)ellular de(cid:271)ris, foreig(cid:374) substances: macrophages: large eater. Life span can range from several months to years.
