Government is an integral part of the food chain: 1: creates a tax environment, supports education and research, creates regulations on food safety, handling and labelling. Governments must negotiate the best terms for the trade in food goods. Technological change especially in agriculture, has had an impact on our plant, and now we are seeing a change like we have never experienced. Human impact on the planet now seems to be coming back to haunt us: our food supply and lives for the future are now in some doubt. Governments have assisted farmers through: subsides, tax breaks. Regulatory agencies work to keep agricultural pests out of the country through border inspection. There are so many ways that insects can enter the country. Airborne pests like insects have infected birds simply over the border. Food is a big industry nearly generating 80 billion in sales annually. Meat processing was the largest industry along with bakeries.
