Ideologically correct science (ics): state use of science, transforming scientific content and institutions into something that is acceptable within a particular ideological framework. Characteristics of ics: unacceptable scientists or institutions are purged from environment, production of science that is acceptable to those in charge of ideological regime. Acceptable scientists are recruited, trained and placed into new institutions. Rewards versus punishment: if a scientist performs research that will be looked upon favorably, they may be tempted to frame research in language of accepted ideology. Rewards may then include promotions, prestige, respect within community. Punishments: shunned from scientific community, socially ostracized, loss of job or life. Scientists choose research projects that will benefit their patrons (usually the government)
