He built an entire academic career watching children play. He presented us with a model of how human being thinking evolved. Sensory motor stage - 0-2 years of age; children learn that they have senses (sight, smell, taste, touch). And, they develop connections between these sensory organs and the cns. One of the important hallmarks of sensory motor stage is the notion of object permanence. I. e. object permanence refers to the notion that up until age 2 if they don"t see you, you don"t exist. Because children don"t have the motion of memory. Object permanence is a critical milestone of development - you develop cause and effect reasoning. Up until the age of 2, it is almost impossible for children to understand if x, then y . Before 2 year olds, the children see the world as very random . Object permanence is an important stage in intellectual development .
