PHIL 2170 Chapter Notes - Chapter Notes from Assigned Moodle Readings (second half of course): Linda Hirshman, Political Lesbianism
Document Summary
Claire snyder-hall: third-wave feminism and the defense of choice . Note: article deals with the problem of self-ascribed feminist women who, by choice, engage in behavious that may run contrary to gender equality. That was the problem of second-wave feminism and which third-wave feminism has sought to solve and/or reconcile. Note: choice in snyder-hall"s view simply refers to an individual"s self-determination. The third-wave version of choice feminism i am advocating views freedom not as simply the capacity to make individual choices but rather as the ability to determine your own life path (p. 256) Note: snyder-hall argues that second-wave feminism permitted women to make some choices to an extent, but that their role still relied heavily on being their husband"s helpmates. Within second-wave feminism, camps emerged; particularly ones like the pro-sex and the anti-sex in snyder-hall"s view, the movement of women for equality could not be realized due to incompatible and irreconcilable worldviews.
