People who use drugs can develop substance use disorder. Psychoactive drug a rug that alters perceptions and moods. A person who tries alcohol or a drug for the first time may get the hit faster than a regular user due to tolerance. Regular users have brain chemistry that has adapted to the alcohol or drug causing them to require more substance to get the same hit . There are 3 categories of drugs: depressants, stimulants, and hallucinogens. All these drugs act of the brains chemical messengers (neurotransmitters) by stimulating, inhibiting, or mimicking them: depressants. Alcohol they slow brains activity by disinhibiting the brain activity that controls judgement and inhibitions. Alcohol consumption lowers neural processing by slowing the sympathetic nervous system. Disrupts brain memory and cognition and can impair the growth of synaptic connections. Can lead to blackouts where the person does not remember what has occurred. People drink to forget about a bad day.
