Chapter 1 the revealing science of social psychology: social psychology is the scientific study of the causes and consequences of people"s thoughts, feelings and actions regarding themselves and actual imagined or other people implied presence of others. A view that focuses on the influence of culture on thoughts, feelings and behaviour: cultural animals: only humans create their own symbolic conception of reality. Neuroscience involves assessments of brain waves, brain imaging and cardiovascular functioning. They tend to choose the one at the further end despite the fact they were all identically designed. There is nothing as practical as a good theory - kurt lewin: cycle of theory and research, theory hypothesis research experimental research. Correlation is a statistical test of the relationship self-report surveys & questionnaires: a relationship between variables does not mean that one caused another, ex. A) does watching violence b) predicts children"s aggression.
