Document Summary
Major antecedents of attraction: propinquity effect the finding that the more we see and interact with people the more likely they are to become our friends. Leon festinger, stanley (1950) tracked friendship formation among the couples of various apartment buildings. They found that 65 percent of the residents mentioned people who lived in the building, even though the other buildings were not too far away. Ie. moreland & beach (1992) tested a hypothesis by planting female research confederates in a large university classroom. The woman did not interact with the professor or the other students. They simply walked in and sat quietly in the first row where everyone would see them. Results found tat students thought the confederates they saw more often were more attractive: similarity attraction to people who are like us. Complementarity: attraction to people who are opposite of us. Is the arousal due to fear or the person themselves.
