Emotional/ hostile aggression: aggression in which one inflicts harm for its own sake on another. Examples include a jealous lover striking out in a rage or soccer fans having a brawl in the stands after a game. Instrumental aggression: aggression in which on inflicts harm in order to obtain something of value. People who kill others in self defense, or to gain money or attention are motivated by instrumental aggression. Aggressive acts include acts where there was an intention to harm, even when there was no actual harm. Conceptual difference between these two perspectives is that bandura focuses on the outcomes of behavior while scherer take a more cognitive motivational approach focusing on the intention of the perpetrator. Emily sees life as kill or be killed and wants to make sure that she comes out ahead. She reacts angrily when she sees her boyfriend talking to other girls and tries to quickly interrupt such conversations .
