Attitudes and attitude change influencing thoughts, feelings, and. Attitudes an evaluation of a person, object or idea: they consist of both positive and negative emotions, people can also experience ambivalence mixed feelings. E. g. the topic of abortion: affective component emotional reactions toward the attitude object, cognitive component thoughts and beliefs about the attitude, behavioral component actions/observable behaviour toward attitude. Social psychologist focus on attitudes created by peoples affective, cognitive and behavioral experiences. Affectively based attitude an attitude based primarily on peoples emotions and feelings about the attitude object. We sometimes we like things that has negative beliefs e. g. liking someone with an untrustworthy history. Attitudes included controversial topics: politics, sex and religion. Peoples vote with their hearts not their minds. 3 common aspects: do not result from a rational examination of the issues, the are not governed by logic, the are linked to peoples values so trying to change is challenging peoples values.
