Document Summary
Chapter 2- methods of personality research and assessment. Personality research = asking and answering about why people think, act, feel like they do. 3 research approaches to gather info about personality = case studies, correlational studies, and experiments. Systematic behaviour- method that 3 research approaches have in common; must carefully monitor and measure and record behaviour at specific points in time, at prescribed intervals and under certain conditions/ circumstances; answer questions with these 3 methods. Case study- involves a detailed qualitative description of the behaviour of the individual; they produce lots of info that (cid:272)a(cid:374)(cid:859)t be obtained by other two methods. Correlational study- examines the quantitative relationship between 2 or more variables for a group of people observed under same conditions. Variable- factors, characteristics, or events that may assume range of values (they vary) Experiment- looks at the quantitative relationship between conditions that are systematically varied and are expected to cause specific changes in behaviour.
