Chapter is about the dispositional strategy for understanding the human personality. Disposition an enduring, relatively stable personality characteristic; can be used synonymously with word trait. According to the dispositional strategy, people differ in the way they are generally disposed to (cid:271)eha(cid:448)e; (cid:272)a(cid:374) (cid:858)(cid:272)o(cid:373)e (cid:374)aturally(cid:859) Dispositional labels serve as organizing concepts that may explain a perso(cid:374)(cid:859)s behaviour in various situations; basically describing people by personality types. Used to organize and explain actions of others (been around for thousands of years) Dividing people into relatively small numbers of types based on their personality; by doing this can figure out how they would act in certain situations. Started with ancient hebrews (old testament); goal was to identify 2 different types of people (cid:894)those (cid:449)ho should fight a(cid:374)d those (cid:449)ho should(cid:374)(cid:859)t(cid:895) New theory: there is at least 2 broad/ distinct ingredients in personality which people ha(cid:448)e differe(cid:374)t a(cid:373)ou(cid:374)ts of extraversion and neuroticism; these two play central role in several contemporary theories.
