Classifying abnormality in diagnosis assessment and research: diagnoses- greek for apart-to know, assessment-gathering info abt a client in order to make a diagnosis, advantages and limitation of diagnosis: Classifying allows clinicians and others to research effectively. Classifying facilitates research on the causes of disorder. Only good in medicine when effective and accurate. Overlaps and inconsistencies in patients cause confusion; not black n white. Szaz-humanist-categorizing harms more than helps: dehumanize ppl; oversimplify; stigmatizing labels. Apa-standard for psychopathology: dsm- diagnostic statistic manual use reliability and validity, reliability-consistency, validity-accuracy of the diagnosis, reliability: Consistency is key in diagnosing and classifying. Harder in mental disorder than in medical. Statistic correlation-b. w. judges and b. w. tests and retest results: higher correlation; higher reliability, validity: After reliable test; accuracy is in question. Iq test are reliable but are they valid; not so clear. Not easy to have reliability and validity at same time. In order to increase reliability; some simplification needed ; causing less accuracy.
