Chapter 4 clinical assessment: we need to assess if any behavior is normal or abnormal. Clinical assessment: how and why does the client behave abnormally: assessment is collecting relevant information in an effort to reach a conclusion, clinical assessment is used to determine how and why a person is behaving abnormally and how that person may be helped. It also allows clinicians to track progress to see if a switch in treatment will be necessary. We want to make sure everyone has the same understanding of the test instruction: scoring also must be standardized for grading and interpreting, reliability refers to the consistency of an assessment measure. Clinical interviews: clinical interview is always the first step. Favoured by humanistic and psychodynamic: in a structured interview, clinicians ask prepared questions, often from a published interview schedule.
