Psychological abnormality affects the famous and the unknown, the rich and the poor. It is the scientific study of abnormal behaviour in an effort to describe, predict, explain, and challenge abnormal patterns of functioning. Most definitions are made up of the four d"s: deviance, distress, dysfunction and danger. Patterns of psychological abnormality are typically deviant(different, unusual) Dysfunctional(interfering with the person"s ability to conduct daily activities in a constructive way) Johannes and albertos behaviours, thoughts, and emotions are different from normal. Behaviour that breaks legal norms in considered criminal. But abnormality differs from society to society because a societys norms grows from its culture- history, values, institutions, habits, skills, technology, and arts. A society that is competitive may consider aggressive as normal but a society that is about cooperation would find aggressive behaviour as abnormal. A societies views can change over time (ex. Another example would be wodaabe tribe men wearing makeup to attract women now would be abnormal.
