Stay at home moms tend to be younger, latina, less educated, or foreign born. Now, 4/5 couples are dual-earners, and women make up half of the income. Women"s family and employment roles: perceptions and attitudes. 1977: 64% of adults believed that husbands should be the providers and women shpuld be full-time homemakers. Perceptions of working and stay at home moms. Mothers who go back to work or school immediately after having children (or following a short maternity leave) are viewed as less warm and communal (than mothers who cut back to part time work or stay at home) Mothers who are employed full time are judged more harshly than non mothers who are employed full time. Mothers who work full time are viewed as less nurturing and less professionally competent.
