4 stages of the sexual response cycle: 1) excitement phase. Vasocongestion (swelling of the genital tissues with blood) Flushed skin, heart rate quickens, breathing rate increases: 2) plateau phase. Lover 1/3 of vagina becomes engorged with blood (forming the orgasmic platform) Heart rate, blood pressure, breathing continue to elevate: 3) orgasmic phase. Orgasmic platform, uterus, and anal sphincters contract: 4) resolution phase. Kinsey found that 15% of the women he studied has multiple orgasms, but most studied find 5% actually do. Women feel inadequate if they don"t have multiple orgasms. Achieved through clitoral stimulation by masturbation done by most young girls. Freud thought that this was immature and sexually inadequate for women. Freud thought that women needed to transition from clitoral to vaginal once they started having sex. Research suggests that there is only 1 type of orgasm. Allows and encourages premarital sex for men but not for women. Women report more negative attitudes than men about casual sex.
