Getting your period causes a lot of physical changes at around age 10-11. Secondary sex characteristics= they are reproductive characteristics of the body but they aren"t directly involved in it. (boobs and pubic hair) Avg amount of periods is 450 in life. Period works- hypothalamus monitors the bodys level of estrogen. When it is low, the hypothalamus signals the pituitary gland to secrete follicle stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone. Ovaries= holds the ova= eggs and make estrogen and progesterone. Ovulation= 14th day of menstrual cycle the egg breaks out of its follicle. the egg goes from the ovary into the fallopian tube and into the uterus= organ where fetus develops.
