Puberty for young girl they experience physical changes that lead to sexual maturity. Adolescence the psychological changes that occur during puberty; transition phase from childhood and adulthood. Menarche- major biological milestone for females; beginning of menstruation. No event that ends adolescence to adulthood. Enter puberty for girls at 9-13 y/o; average is 12; black/ latina girls tend to reach sooner than european and european reach faster than asian americans. Factors of menstruation = body weight and nutrition. Many times family or media can portray menstruation as negative. 10 11 y/o = most dramatic changes with secondary sex characteristics (reproduction but not pubic hair) Ovaries contain follicles that hold the ova (eggs) and make progesterone and estrogen. Ovulation when an egg breaks from the follicle and the egg moves from ovary to fallopian tube and into uterus (occurs on the 14th day) Uterus organ where the fetus develops; eggs end here.
