Puberty refers to physical changes that are related to sexual maturity. Adolescence is psychological changes that are related to sexual maturity. Menarche: technical term for beginning of menstruation. Menarche is an important component of puberty in young women. Black, latin girls in usa reach menarche earlier than european american and they reach it before asian americans. Body weight is correlated with the age at which a female reaches puberty. Secondary sex characteristics are: breasts, pubic hair and increase in hips and thigh fat. features of the body related to sexual reproduction but not directly involved in it. Pituitary gland is important in menstruation because it produces hormones that are critical in the menstrual cycle. Hormones regulated the development of follicles and the lining of the uterus. Ovaries: contain the egg, which is released in the middle of the cycle into the fallopian tube.
