Congnitive-behavioral therapy refers to both cognitive and overt behavioral interventions or what might be called traditional behavioral therapy. Main goal is to help clients with psychological problems. Scientific definition; involves scientific approach, precision, and empirical evaluation. Active; requires actions in session and outside of session. Therapist can help invent the behavior in everyday environment. The pro is that the person can implement it. The con is that its harder to control the natural environment. Client themselves can be the change agent (self-control) through self-monitoring, self-realization and modification. Present focus; focus of therapy is at present. Therapist assumes clients problem is in present and influenced by current conditions. Learning focus: all behavior is affected by learning. New adaptive behavior can replace old maladaptive behavior. Individualized therapy; tailored to each client unique problem, circumstances, Treatment package; two or more behavior therapy are combined in a treatment package to increase effectiveness: limitations ; more is better but it might make therapy lengthy.
