The notion, men must protect women b/c they r weak, defenceless and less responsible than men. At the turn of the century, lawyers, judges, jury members, victims were men but the lives to be saved/claimed in the name of chiclaric justice were woman"s. Clara ford, murdered 18yr old frank, said she didn"t go to police for justice b/c of her color. Carrie davies, shot massey b/c she felt sexualy in danger. Blacks were linked more closely to animals than humans in the late 19th century. Life had dealt her a cruel blow.
